Our work in Haiti
Across Haiti, the cholera epidemic has devastated communities still struggling to recover from the devastation caused by the January 2010 earthquake. In Mirebalais in early 2012, Partners In Health will open a 320-bed, state-of-the-art teaching hospital that will train the next generation of Haitian doctors. Our work in Rwanda
In Rwanda, where more than a third of the population lives on less than $1 per day, IMB is working closely with the national and district governments to create success stories in areas as diverse as AIDS treatment and prevention, maternal and neonatal health, and chronic disease and cancer care – all while strengthening public sector health care capacity. ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND AND PROGRAMS
PIH Canada received Canadian charitable status in 2011 and is based in Toronto. We look forward to working in solidarity with all those across Canada—students and seniors, corporations and community groups, universities and other NGOs—who share our passion for this work.
PIH Canada works in Haiti and Rwanda using PIH and sister organizations Zanmi Lasante in Haiti (‘Partners In Health’ in Haitian Creole) and Inshuti Mu Buzima in Rwanda (‘Partners In Health’ in Kinyarwanda) as implementing partners. Projects may include the provision of medicines; construction and maintenance of hospitals, clinics and other health care facilities; primary care programs; maternal and child health initiatives; treatment and prevention of communicable and non-communicable diseases; food security and other areas.
