Global Impact of Drug-Resistant TuberculosisThe Global Impact of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis
Harvard Medical School, Open Society Institute

The Global Impact of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis, commissioned by the Open Society Institute and prepared by Harvard Medical School, is a timely and up-to-date account of the global situation of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). This report provides a better understanding of the emerging problem of MDR-TB, its origins and causes, and possible solutions. It reminds us that tuberculosis control is being neglected in most countries worldwide, and that MDR-TB is a manifestation of this global neglect. And it clearly shows the effects on tuberculosis control of the dismantling of public health services, compounded by a generalized socioeconomic crisis, in eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.
