PIH Russia country director speaks
to the European Parliament

PIH Russia Country Director Oksana Ponomarenko was one of a panel of speakers who addressed the European Parliament in late November during hearings about the activities and accomplishments of the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM).

Ponomarenko presented a report entitled "Tomsk Oblast's Complex Strategy of Management and Control of Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS" to the
parliamentary session. The exceptional success of the Tomsk project has been made possible with a $10.8 USD grant from GFATM that extends through the end of 2009.

As a result of this briefing the legislative body decided to create a Parliamentary Working Group that will address AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
