Frequently Asked Questions —
Procurement or Supply Donations
I’d like to start a collection of items to donate to Partners In Health. What do you need?
PIH prefers to procure as many supplies as possible in the countries where we work, in order to stimulate the local economy and standardize the supplies at we use. Additionally, shipping costs to our international sites are high, making local purchases more economical. If you would like to contribute to our logistics and shipping expenses, please visit https://donate.pih.org/donate.
We do occasionally solicit donations of school supplies, sports equipment, personal care items, and infant care products. If you would like to collect supplies on our behalf, we ask that you contact PIH before starting your drive. Please call 617-998-8922 or contact medicaldonations@pih.org to talk with us about your plans, including what supplies you would like to collect, and where you would like them to be sent. Shipping materials to our project sites can be very expensive and we ask that as part of your drive you also raise funds to offset the freight costs for the materials.
Unfortunately due to budget limitations, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to accept and pay to ship items if PIH was not contacted in advance of your collection efforts.

Can I donate my used medical equipment to Partners In Health?
Partners In Health can accept donations of some medical equipment. In order to evaluate if your equipment can be used at our sites, our biotechnician requires the following pieces of information, in addition to any pictures of the unit and accessories that are available:
- What is the manufacture date of the machine? We usually cannot accept equipment that is over 20 years old.
- What is the manufacturer and model number?
- What is the use and service history of the machine? How frequently was it used, when was it last used, and has it been consistently maintained?
- Are replacement parts and any necessary consumables still available for purchase?
- [If x-ray machine: Is it a single phase or triple phase machine? We can only accept single phase machines.]
- What are the voltage requirements?
- What is the address where the equipment would need to be picked up?
- Are there accessories that you also wish to donate? If so, please list those along with the manufacturer year, make, and model.
Please note that Partners In Health cannot arrange to uninstall the equipment, so the uninstall must take place before the donation can be accepted. We ask that the donor cover the costs to uninstall the equipment. Usually the company who installed the machine is able to un-install it as well. Please fill out the form at act.pih.org/donate-in-kind.

Can PIH come to my country? Will PIH provide funding for our nonprofit?
Thank you for your interest in Partners In Health. Unfortunately, PIH does not have the resources to provide funding to outside organizations or to start new projects. If you are interested in the model of our programs, please look at http://model.pih.org. Here you will be able to find resources regarding how we deliver comprehensive health care at our sites.
If you are interested in finding funding, we recommend looking at www.idealist.org, www.globalgiving.org, or www.guidestar.org for organizations that operate in your area already, or are able to provide funding for new projects.
