The fifteen chapters of this guide are the result of the ten years of  experience of the nursing team of Socios En Salud Sucursal Perú (SES-Perú) who has largely contributed to the development and consolidation of the first community-based model of care for MDR-TB patients. In addition to the general clinical issues related to diagnosis and treatment of MDR-TB, emphasis has been put in the social and emotional aspects related to the disease and the comprehensive approach of the nursing team for the care of MDR-TB patients in the community. The leading role of the nurse in the DOTS-Plus team, in the development of human resources and in research are also discussed in detail. Each chapter develops a specific topic and includes a summary of the main issues related to the topic as well as examples of cases. Protocols and reporting-forms for the management of MDR-TB by the nursing team are included in the appendixes as well a list of organizations and links related to MDR-TB and community nursing.
