Inshuti Mu Buzima organization and people
The structure and division of responsibilities in Rwanda reflect the public-private
partnership among Inshuti Mu Buzima (IMB), PIH, and the Rwandan Ministry
of Health. Many of the IMB staff are Ministry employees receiving support from
PIH. When PIH first arrived in Rwinkwavu, there was not a doctor serving in
the district. In the first year, five doctors were recruited to work with PIH,
including Dr. Adolphe Karamaga, who was appointed by the Ministry to serve
as Medical Director at Rwinkwavu Hospital and oversee the seven health centers
in lower Kayonza district. Committed to helping the Ministry properly staff,
compensate and train medical personnel, PIH has helped recruit and train more
than 200 medical professionals across its sites, as well as a cadre of more
than 700 community health workers. The PIH team on the ground in Rwanda includes
doctors who serve as the PIH project's Country Director, Medical Director and
Director of Pediatric Programs, as well as a Project Manager.
