Family Planning: A Unit of the PIH Community Health Worker Training Series - Rwanda

Community health workers are trained to discuss with women and men the benefits of family planning, addressing the social and cultural obstacles that keep people from practicing family planning. They are also trained to discuss with women and men how family planning is related to securing basic human rights, and how family planning can contribute to the health and well-being of families and communities.

Community health workers learn about various birth control methods, the benefits, limitations, and side effects of each, and how to talk about birth control methods with women and men, including dealing with side effects. They also learn how to demonstrate condom use and support women and men in using condoms if appropriate.

This training is designed for one to two days.
