Unit 6: Improving Programs Through Training

Training is a vital tool in the success of any program and performance activity, but it is not a magic bullet. Training programs take work: a planned strategy with dedicated staff and infrastructure; collaboration with national authorities to plan and implement training activities; training based on learner-centered, participatory materials; and partnerships with those who can provide additional technical expertise. In resource-poor settings, a training of trainers program can increase local skills and build a trainers’ network to scale up programs and services. The unit describes how training programs at PIH-supported sites are everyone’s responsibility.
