Daily life in Haiti continues to be unjustly challenging and dangerous for the communities we serve as well as Zanmi Lasante staff. Today’s political and security crises reflect a history of injustices and are a direct result of lack of investments in the public sector and meddling by international actors.
Despite these challenges, Zanmi Lasante staff have never faltered as they continue to provide health care to nearly a third of all Haitians. They are forced to cope with the crisis by rationing fuel, limiting staff movement, working closely with security experts, and further investing in solar power, satellite phones, and alternative fuel sources. Every Zanmi Lasante health facility has remained open, and we will continue to do whatever it takes to ensure our patients’ right to health, just as we have done during past crises, such as earthquakes, hurricanes, and other periods of intense political turmoil.
Our important work is dependent on the partnership of committed philanthropists who believe - like we do - that true solidarity means standing with those who need it, when they need it most. Now is that time. We hope you will consider joining our urgent response.
Together, we’re training the next generations of Haitian clinicians and health care leaders—a commitment that goes hand-in-hand with our shared commitment to health care as a human right.
