WBEZ: Partners In Health Co-Founder, Ophelia Dahl
"Partners in Health (PIH) was co-founded in Haiti in 1987 with the goal of working in solidarity with some of the world’s poorest people to deliver quality healthcare. Ninety-eight percent of their employees are from the community where they work. The PIH model has spread to 10 countries. A best-selling book was written about one founder, Paul Farmer. Another founder is now head of the World Bank, Jim Yong Kim. A third founder, Ophelia Dahl, is the daughter of famed actress Patricia Neal. Her father, legendary author Roald Dahl, encouraged Ophelia, as a young woman, to go abroad and look for worthwhile adventures. While volunteering in Haiti in 1983, she met Farmer, and has been with Partners in Health ever since. Ophelia joins us to talk about the past, and future, of the landmark humanitarian organization."
