19 snapshots of how PIH brings justice to health care around the world

The shared mission that unites PIH teams around the world is evident in the stories that most caught readers' attention this year. From an Ebola survivor who’s thriving in Sierra Leone to quadruplets born at University Hospital in Mirebalais, Haiti, 2019 was a remarkable year across PIH.  

The study used data from Rwanda health centers and found that improved HIV treatment for pregnant women “contributed to an immediate decrease in the rate of HIV transmission from mother to child.”

Women do an extraordinary amount of good in the world, studies show-and we all know. PIH is proud to support women with maternal care and much more, everywhere we work.

In Haiti, one in five children is malnourished and faces physical and cognitive stunting. Severe malnutrition is a life-threatening condition and, when not addressed aggressively, is a leading cause of death for children under 5 in Haiti, and all around the world.

Health worker Silvester Dambe is fighting malnutrition in the most mountainous, isolated part of Neno District, where he has a special connection to one family in particular.
